No offense, but have you ever read EULAs? Even Windows EULA has a lot of “cut off a finger” provisions. It’s invasive, and people are right to complain. People might cry Linux, but when their job requires them to use Windows and abide by that EULA, most will crumble.

Like it or not, most EULAs are legally binding bullshit that more often than not has to be ignored or bypassed outside of it if necessary. How many people are watching YouTube and ignoring their Terms of Service while using adblockers?

This is nothing new in the world of gaming, and to the scale of affecting over 50% of the score of a game for a provision that is often included in other games they have no problem with is what’s revealing. A lot of MMOs and many multiplayer games do, but people haven’t cried wolf outside of a minority of their community. Pitchford has given his explanation, that it is a matter of the 2K EULA Gearbox has to adopt.

Let’s try this logic on other things. Are all 2K games that have this in their newly updated EULA’s being boycotted? Hint: Civilization is a 2K game.

Too many games are getting shit on because of this, and I say this as someone who is not looking forward to the next Borderlands game until the discounts drop it well below its 80 dollar price tag several years from now while plenty of loud people in this thread will go out to buy it on day one.

The thing about them is that they are loud, directed, and often affect the first impression a game gets. If this wasn’t with The Witcher fame, the effect would be more notable, and oftentimes they don’t admit why they really have a problem with the game directly.

Some people even suggest typing a longer password over a simpler one with more special characters. It’s harder to brute force.

The biggest enabler of these are those bundles you get with cable / Internet providers. Do yourself a favor and buy these individually if at all so you can stop the subscriptions at any time without worries.

Their claims regarding privacy are really not surprising, it’s very on-brand for the developer’s ideology to eliminate transparency for users in the platform while keeping everything stored and federated in the back end for the ruling elite, which if and when they decide to, become the arbiters of who can and won’t see it. They haven’t even bothered to provide any form of recourse to contest it, you basically have to go looking for people yourself. At least until mod member lists are made private too.

I actually only installed M.2 a few years back when I went serious on my PC. I’m aware of the issues, although it’s still running good. I wonder how long it will last. I still have a few IDE drives, and some no longer can be read. Not because they’ve lost the data, but it just doesn’t spin up correctly. It will be interesting to see how it works out, at the moment I’m keeping an eye out on the health using CrystalDiskInfo. There’s certainly been cases of M.2 sticks with shitty firmware, but so far I seem to have avoided them. I’m also trying out a RAIDed M.2 mini NAS, it will be fun to see how that works out compared to the traditional NAS.

Now consider your typical 40 hour week, for 52 weeks, for several decades. It is higher than background radiation, objectively so. You get 10 hours of sun exposure, you risk sunburn and higher skin cancer rates as it adds up. There have to be dose limits for pilots, 100 hours of flight time per 28 days. For people who were stuck in front of a CRT display, most of the radiation was also focused on their eyes. You got the numbers, now actually think about them.

I do not envy some of the ocular conditions some of the old long-time programmers in the industry had, although this is from personal experience. All CRTs generate Xrays, even if later on regulation would attempt to minimize the amount generated. and using them should still mean keeping your distance. The effects it has on your eyes are not instant, specially if you don’t use them as part of your job.

A lot of the excessive warning from screens came from this era, where there was an actual risk. Unfortunately, there are planty of antivax-like CRT-radiation deniers, but fortunately, it’s no longer a problem.
