Cool. Now use the data to get them all blacklisted on dating sites, that should reestablish some semblance of balance.
It’s insane it had 800k people there
Interesting that people find this surprising when it’s not surprising to me at all. This is the kind of people young men go to when they get chased away from more mainstream platforms.
What do you mean by “chased away”?
I think it’s a platform that they’re attracted to because they’re missing something in their lives.
Fascinating that users find it interesting that people find it surprising when its actually is: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-65959097

He had his own school for scoundrels, and got 800k people to join? What a sad commentary on the world in which we live.
According to the article, that so called university is teaching about healthy living, exercise, and how to make and handle money. On a surface level, that sounds pretty alright.
Up until now when I researched the guy, I had no idea who he was and what ideals he represents. So I could see how unsuspecting people sign up for that stuff without any ill intent.
Yes, that’s what the ad said, but the actual class was basically teaching how to trick a woman into bed. The movie sucked, by the way, even if the protagonist figures it out and leaves the class (happyish ending, I suppose). The original story is much worse and much more objectifying.
That 800k number is the saddest I’ve felt since the morning of the 5th. Wtf?
This knucklehead has a “university”?
Trump had one as well. Similar knuckle-dragging target audience between the two, I’d wager.
All this is very intriguing to say the least but I’m not sure I’m following the information correctly- have these users been doxxed or is this just a temporary blow to Tate’s pockets?
It’s not even a blow to his pocket if monthly pay continues. They modified the chat service, not their payment operations.
If it’s only email addresses and chat logs I wouldn’t call it doxxing either.
Then I’m confused - sorry for being this slow- how is this supposed to affect him or his followers?
It’s bad publicity. A failure to protect their customer data and people may cancel due to it or evade them in the future. It’s also an opportunity to report on or discuss their other criticisms.
I can’t speak for them; but it still seems like viable and productive activism to me, whether they do direct or indirect [monetary or personal] damage or not.
I stumbled over this video going over what’s in the leaked data dump (14 GB of text) and potential consequences (it’s pretty good/concise) [timestamped]: https://youtu.be/j84gB2cbNps?si=msCVMyQzdCaf-VHs&t=474
Before the timestamp is more info on how their platform works and how they got hacked.
Thanks!
