I think a FOSS project remaining sustainable.
Sustainability is a term with at least four columns: ecological, social, economical, political etc.
I’m sure it’s with time/money. If they have expenditures related to building/maintaining the software that are for example covered by donations, ensuring future donations would fall under “maintaining sustainability”
I don’t see why it couldn’t mean all at once; overall sustainability of some thing could be seen as the sum of these individual aspects.
