I currently pay for Netflix 4K. But I want to watch the content in 4K on my laptop and Netflix won’t let me do that since I’m using Linux/Firefox.
I also have a Jellyfin server and rip my BluRays, so I’m used to ripping my own media to stream on my local network. I’d like to rip some of the newer “planet earth” style documentaries from Netflix which is presented in really beautiful 4k video. Is there a guide somewhere which will walk me though how to do this? I imagine I’ll have to buy some additional gear to do this, but I’m not averse to that.
If anyone can point me the right direction, I’d be grateful.

It is SIGNIFICANTLY easier to just download properly done rips than to try to either capture or dump the Netflix streams yourself.
I know you’re right but I haven’t been able to find the specific documentaries I want to rip. Also, my library is all in the av1 codec and I’d like to keep it that way as much as I can.
How familiar are you with torrents? I can send you an invite to a private tracker full of 4k remux documentaries… I just think you are better with 1080p if watching on a laptop. For me at least, I can’t tell the difference (and I have a 4k screen on my laptop)

Try Real Debrid. It’s rare to not find something. Should you really not be able to find them, then the news servers are where you should head next. Just about anything ever made is on nzb. You’ll need to pay some money and do a little learning, but the Usenet is pretty rad once you figure it out. It’s a lot easier now than it used to be too. They have clients that will search, download, unpack, and assemble, all at the click of a button. But like I said, Real-Debrid+Stremio+Torrentio is amazing.

Tack on rclone for copying them locally. (The Bob’s Burgers Archive must grow)
My advice for finding torrents, so long as they are not insanely obscure, is using qbittorrent with tons of search plugins. It may be hard to find av1 but if you have a new GPU you can transcode quickly, or if you don’t you can always use software encoding.
For screenripping, the concepts are:
- you have to have a client that can play the content
- output via a HDMI splitter
- record the screen from the second computer
- you now have a 4k recording
That constitutes a webrip.
A webdl means you need to crack widevine or whatever protections Netflix has in place.
How you crack that means you most likely need a L1 key which is the highest protection and no one is going to tell you how to get one or crack it. If they do they risk making their way & key public and then it will be patched and “everyone” will be worse off.

I’m not an expert,but maybe you can use a 4K video capture card, then encode it to AV1 using GPU acceleration preferably. It’s a bit of a hassle,but it might work.
Need to strip the hdcp and with 4k is not as easy as with 1080p which can be done with a $10 AliExpress splitter
Get a Shield or something of the sort and stream from that.
Or
Stop paying for 4k if you don’t want to run Windows/OSX/use smart TV apps/get another device just for that, you’re wasting your money.
Edit: Lol at the downvote, streaming services don’t let you see 4k content from a browser, that’s just a fact, so unless you are ready to use a platform that allows you to watch 4k content then you’re wasting money by paying for it. None of them have a native Linux app either, so your choice is Windows, OSX, TV app or Android based device.
