Nope, installed directly on an old Dell laptop
Checking it out now, seems very usable already!
Main issues I’m having are related to the Panel applets, like not being able to open Mullvad or Steam library from their right click menus.
But the standard things I’ve tried like streaming music, watching movies on VLC on a second monitor and playing games (admittedly easy stuff for the laptop like Slay the Spire and Into the Breach) all work with no issues so far.
Looking forward to getting into theming, etc and to see Cosmic get the additional Settings menus and be further refined 😄
Fwiw, I’ve had no issues playing CS2 on either with my old (3700x/1080ti) or newer setup (5800X3D/7900XTX) with PopOS. The first doesn’t seem too far away from your rig, have you tried switching the Nvidia driver you’re on? I think Turing is fine with 560?
Does your display specifically support HDR? If not it doesn’t matter whether the codecs/media/metadata support it, you won’t gain from it
Really appreciate the shout out to the community members providing the fixes, very cool. Dusted off an old laptop in preparation for the Alpha!
I try to think this wherever I bemoan the lack of IPU4 support
Thanks for the post, just sent $30 through
I’ve not had UI issues but agree on the Pop Shop. The next iteration with Cosmic looks to be significantly improved at least
PopOS has an ISO with Nvidia drivers included, no issues gaming straight away on my old 1080ti. As I’m a simpleton who just likes their system to with I’ve stuck with it even after upgrading to an AMD card
Functionality is also nonexistent on administrating uploads in YT Music. At least on GPM you could edit basic tags and upload/edit album art. None of that on YTM
Edit: ignore comment, didn’t realise it was about the Deck initially!
I’ve got a SP8 which I’ve been running PopOS on since the start of the year. The cameras don’t work but this isn’t a deal-breaker for me, it runs smoothly and is perfect for my needs as a media consumption device (music, movies, comics) with some browsing. There were some issues I had on installation but nothing that couldn’t be resolved. Many thanks to the Linux surface team!
Even having moved to Linux, I miss Foobar. Deadbeef isn’t that dissimilar but isn’t quite close though for me
Number 2 was huge for me, and it hit home when I realised that 99% of my Steam library was supported. Thankfully I don’t need to use any Windows only apps (Adobe suite, etc) so the decision to move over to Linux was trivial personally
I use it on my Surface Pro 8 with PopOS as Xorg doesn’t work properly
It’s not fanless but I was also thinking of the Lemur Pro. Apparently System76 will be bringing out a new design though next month
Darkest Dungeon is probably top of my games not already mentioned, Slay the Spire is definitely up there too!
I’m on Pop too, mainly looking forward to Cosmic because… It’s got a cool name. The actual features are gravy to me
They all look to be 123.0, though bizarrely the version advertised as flatpak in About Firefox doesn’t pause/delay before opening but the other version does. No messages come through on dmesg -w unfortunately, I’m pretty stumped. The only clue I have is that the version of Librewolf I have on my desktop installed through the Pop Shop doesn’t delay opening but the same version on my SP8 installed through deb does.
Ultimately it does point towards FF in show way?
Indeed, looking forward to gaming on PopOS Cosmic beta next year
