I think it was done to make code overall nicer: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/merge_requests/4508#note_1416720
Scroll speed will still be lower in papers because of changes in gtk.
Seems like it’s a big work across multiple codebases: mutter, gtk, gstreamer, mesa, gtk applications, might be also kernel. There are improvements and blogposts, but we still didn’t get graphics offloading on regular fedora desktop. I suspect that’s why it seems like devs are doing this feature over and over again. Let’s wait while they cook for us.
you can. in that case compilation step is replaced with downloading a binary.
compare steam and workbench manifests. in the first case manifest instructs to download a binary and copy stuff into the right place, in second one - to use meson buildsystem, it does everything for you.
pretty much the same as, for example, rpm
trusted third party (e.g. your distro) compiles the Flatpak from the published source code
flatpak bundles in flathub repository are built by flathub build bot.
Good opportunity to say how annoying are update notes like “We are continuing to improve our application. We fixed a couple more issues to make it more stable”. Corporate style, uselessness and the fact that this update can contain some stupid redesign is disgusting.
Whenever I look at shell contributors implementing widgets that already exist in gtk and libadwaita I wonder what if shell was written using gtk? Is libpeas not good enough to provide extensions support?
iirc you need to open xpi file in epiphany (right click -> open in… -> epiphany)
Christian is insane. He made Builder (biggest libadwaita app), sysprof, libdpelling, gnome text editor, improved VTE and performance in various gnome (not only) apps using sysprof. He also helped with gtk. And now he’s working on prompt. It’s funny how in various apps there is no session saving because designers didn’t come up with design for it yet and Christian just implemented it in prompt, text editor and builder.
It isn’t true
it’s probably a lot more than 1k subs. there are atleast also 265 subs from lemmy.world instance
I don’t think jxl adoption is going anywhere until chromium starts supporting it, since it’s the most used browser engine.
Also sidebar.revamp. It’s kinda underwhelming, because as of now sidebar doesn’t include tab titles and empty headerbar isn’t removed. Hope it’s going to be improved in the future
