Torchlight 2 should scratch that itch. To me, Path of Exile is something the Diablo series could have been but wasn’t exactly? Though I haven’t played it in a number of years, so I may be mis-remembering exactly what it was like. I seem to think it was more like a point-and-click RPG with kinda Diablo-like combat.
I will continue not using it. I was interested in Oculus until they sold to FB and then I nope’d right out of that. I really did think VR was neat, but various things kept me from pulling the trigger. If it becomes the only way to use chunks of the internet, I just won’t use them; I grew up still in the analog world (though we did have BBS and very early dial-up in the '80s), and I could go back to it. I’d honestly miss educational content more than anything else, but I can get books. In my lifetime, that strategy would probably still work fine.
What do the terms of use and privacy policies say? Who’s paying for the servers and what are they getting out of it? Also, since your data is federated, what happens when it hits a server with any different policies (or who may be in violation of the license of the software itself, but is getting no enforcement)?
If you are not paying for some service, you and your data are almost certainly the product. It was true then, it’s still true today.
I mean, LOAF was a thing (Linux on a Floppy) that had basic functionality even as most distros were downloaded or on CD. I can’t imagine anyone still develops it, though.

I think “rogue-lite” or something like that is a better term for what I like. I’m currently playing “Against the Storm” is one a coworker recommended recently and I’m enjoying so far. Spelunky 2 was OK. There are probably a couple other’s I’m not remembering at the moment.

Yep. I think my age (I’m in my mid-40s) and being an adult when I played them or they came out has a lot to do with it. I think having less free time and a number of issues I deal with makes it harder to enjoy certain types of games (this is not to say young people don’t face their own stresses and issues!)
I think any game you grew up with gets a nostalgia level assigned to it and it’s easy to overlook certain flaws. For me, OoT felt like a step back, but I had been playing PC and Amiga games lot (I hated Starfox for this same reason). I’m sure I have the nostalgia glasses for some games, but I’m old enough that I think many wouldn’t even know them, hah.
I have the exact opposite opinion, heh. Sniper elite drove me crazy when I’d carefully line up a shot and be just too far inside cover and shoot a wall I couldn’t see because my freaking character was in the way
FF6 is still my favorite.
Heh, exact opposite for me; I hate 3rd person games and feel frustrated most.of the time (sniper elite comes to mind)

I don’t mind that epic, etc. exist; I mind the exclusives. When Epic first launched, they didn’t have payment processors in a number of countries so there was literally no way to legally play the games for people; that’s super shitty.

MSI has a Windows utility to control the fans as desired. I don’t think there’s a BIOS boot menu, but I will check.
EDIT:
Fan curves are apparently in “Hardware Monitor” because that makes sense. Blah. I still have to tweak more, or maybe Linux is just running hotter on my machine, but improvement has happened.
I didn’t realize my BIOS could have a boot menu pop up because the splash screen disappears instantly. Problem solved. Thank you!
I bout a new HDD and installed linux mint. Works fine except for two major things. Related to the post, I cannot get the bootloader to find windows 10 no matter what I do. I might try to swap the windows drive to sata slot 1 and see if that (a) still works for windows and (b) gets grub2 working. For now, I have to go into the BIOS and mess with the boot order there to switch.
The second problem, not related, is there doesn’t appear to be any fan control software that works for my MSI motherboard’s CPU fan (lmsensors doesn’t see any sensors related to it) so the fan constantly runs even when it’s fine in silent mode on windows with regard to temperature. I have trouble with certain sounds (and trouble hearing over background sounds in general) so this is actually more of a dealbreaker than the bootloader.
I mean, if you change it to “if Bob murdered a guy in cold blood (i.e. not defense, etc.) and no one was looking, did Bob break the law?” The answer to me wouldn’t be anything but yes.
Just because the offense is different or you don’t agree with it doesn’t change that in my eyes. It generally doesn’t change it in the eyes of the law, either. Always campaign against laws you think are bullshit. If enough people do, you might be able to do something about it.
