Un Dorian Gray sin pasado, ni patria ni bandera.
I’m just a guy in the #pnw who likes going on adventures, and playing games with friends.
Three things I love: the Oxford Comma, irony, and missed opportunities.

Yeah, given my druthers I’d rather summer time, but that seems unlikely happen any time soon. So honestly, I’ll be happy if we no longer have to change clocks twice a year regardless of which we align with.
Oregon Senate just passed that bill. Here’s hoping.
Welcome! Don’t be surprised if you feel the need to try out all the distros!
Yeah, I was doing pretty much all that with trakt already, but wasn’t sure if I was missing anything. I do like the ability to hide shows though.
Pop_os is a good choice. It’s a solid distro and a good introduction to Linux. You can distro hop later, start with something easy for now. I installed it as a dual boot in case I needed Windows for something, but this is the first distro I haven’t felt the need to switch back.
Started in college with Mandrake Linux. Used it off and on over the years, though I kept switching back. I recently settled on Pop_OS. Part of what kept me switching back was not having the time to tinker with it. Now that it mostly works, it’s become my daily driver.
For keyboard I’m currently using OpenBoard and ThumbKey, the latter obviously not for everyone.
Adding to your list:
I’m late, but I have Obsidian set up with Syncthing and it works flawlessly. I adore Syncthing and would be lost without it!
Depending on your note taking needs, if Obsidian is too much, you could do the same with Notable/Noteless and Syncthing.
It depends on your bowel movements and how much fiber you eat. I still have to wipe a little after the water, but far less than without. Others, drying is enough.
After using one for a while now, it seems so uncivilized not using one now.
Another alternative is Revolt. It’s open source and very similar to Discord, but it’s not federated, and thus not part of the fediverse.
I honestly think that has to do with the fact that everyone on the fediverse has the ability to immediately block bad actors and never see them again. If there’s enough brigading happening, that server can be defederated. Those same toxic people exist here, they’re just shunted to their own inaccessible islands.
That was the idea!
I named my cat Neko as a teen because of this program!
Firefish and Mastodon are both microblogging platforms (like Twitter) on the fediverse. Kbin and Lemmy are both forum style platforms (like Reddit).
Where Lemmy and Mastodon are for people who prefer a more basic just the necessities experience, kbin and Firefish provide a more stylish experience with more options and customization.
I get it. I still flinch when I see I have new messages waiting. But the fediverse is generally a pretty pleasant place and we work hard to keep it that way.
There’s nothing wrong with having separate accounts either, I do. But if you’re going to check out mastodon, I’d recommend also checking out firefish as well.
They’re both the “twitters” of the fediverse, so like kbin and Lemmy here. Mastodon is more for people who want a simple interface with fewer options, whereas Firefish has a sleeker more customizable interface with a lot more options and features. And it has a wonderful onboarding process. They’ll both get you the same content, so it’s whichever one you like better.
You’ve basically gotten your answer from the other comments, but you happened to pick the one fediverse platform that doesn’t really federate well. Lemmy (I believe by design) only federates with kbin and that’s about it. Kbin on the other hand federates with both Lemmy and mastodon/firefish (formerly Calckey).
And just a note, with the activitypub protocol, all platforms have the option to federate with every other activitypub platform, but not all choose to, and not everything at that. So while you can follow Mastodon/firefish from, say, Pixelfed, it’ll only populate the photos, not the text only posts.
If you really want to follow Masto/firefish, you’d be better off with kbin as I don’t believe Lemmy has that on their roadmap. Unfortunately, there isn’t a migration option yet, so you’d have to refollow the same communities all over again from kbin.
Well, this thread has strengthened my desire to adopt a teen from foster care. I technically have/had a family but they were more like roommates than parents. Left at 18 and never looked back. Had my share of lonely holidays that I would dread when they came around. I’m not trying to say I’ve had the same story as those here, but I get some parts of it really well. I’m finally at a place where maybe I can prevent that from happening to someone else.
