Credit unions don’t have shareholders. They face totally different pressures.

Paypal has a reputation for this kind of thing from before Trump 2.0 though. They’ve ben doing this since at least 2003.
PayPal wouldn’t dare attack Steam for accepting external payment methods with rules they don’t agree with and can’t change because they don’t own those companies. In addition to opening them up to potential lawsuits, it could catastrophically backfire if Valve simply said “fine, we don’t accept PayPal anymore, but we do accept crypto now.”
PayPal would die in a week. The investors would drag out a guillitine by the next earnings call.
I’d imagine it’s sort of like reading porn rather than watching porn. Different people are activated by different things.
It looks like we are going that way. Frankly it’s for the best. Tor has become a risk and that’s just not acceptable under this regime.
Oh please understand I read your comment as intrigue and not hostility. I welcome the conversation, including any rebuttals that could prove me wrong.
I like it here on Lemmy. People complain about the tankies but overall it’s actually been very tame and friendly compared to Reddit and conversations like this are just a joy for me.
Or you could switch from using a bank to a credit union.
It solves a problem we don’t really have anymore.
I’m planning a similar exodus. I like my apple stuff but considering its heavy reliance on the cloud, lower level system access I can’t control, and that it’s an American company operating under a Nazi regime, I really can’t trust it anymore.
Moving to Linux isn’t so bad, but I’m really struggling with leaving iOS. Android has a lot of limitations if you try to break free from Gemini-surveilled stuff. Simple things I take for granted like tap to pay wouldn’t be practical on such a device anymore.
It kills me there’s nothing I can do software-wise to make the Samsung z fold7 an acceptable option for me. Really impressed by that device and my carrier does have some compelling promos for it, but even under this regime, I don’t trust Samsungs software.
Well it’s heavier and slower than native code and due in part to being an oracle technology people kind of avoid it anymore. It’s kind of a legacy language at this point.
This is the golden age of misinformation and you are bitching about citations?
I think they were trying to lean too hard into the warring gamers battling it out, and the black woman represented the original PSP while the white woman represented the new white PSP, player 2.
But they put it on a fucking billboard where the only context we have to go by is beating the shit out of a black chick. What they fuck did they expect people to think?
Like artistically I can see what they were aiming for with this but they not only failed to understand the medium and audience, but when the obvious interpretation came to their attention they did not fucking care.
Just incredible.
Nothing. But this does it all in bulk instantly for free.
I’m surprised you didn’t post that PSP ad with the white lady beating the shit out of the black lady…to promote the sale of a white PSP.
I’m looking at suse tumbleweed for an upcoming build. Ubuntu is getting obnoxious, mint is ugly and way behind on Wayland support and fedora I can’t really trust at this point as it’s a community version of a corporate American product. Like I could ignore the corporate stink before but -gestures broadly- not in this climate.
I liked arch but now that bcacheFS is getting yanked out of the kernel I don’t really have a reason to manually do so much myself anymore.
This looks….abusable. I mean, the immich thing is nice but what’s stopping me from breaking into an iCloud account, dumping the photos into this and letting it tell me the best way to stalk someone?
Also, Java in 2025 is an odd thing to see. What problem did using Java solve?
Seed boxes are also dumb. You are making a honeypot for yourself that can be monitored by the hosting provider.
Yes and no. It’s certainly better than stock android. You won’t find anyone who says otherwise. But it creates unnecessary dependancies on apple’s ecosystem and Apple can’t be trusted. Nothing with shareholders can be trusted. Apple might be an ally today but they are a US based-company operating within the confines of what the US will let it do.
All their cloud services are pretty poorly protected too. Every year or so me and my friends will find Chinese gibberish entries in our calendars that link to phishing sites. These get cleaned up eventually but it proves that Apple is lying about not being able to access your shit.
I’m planning my exodus from the Apple ecosystem and looking at grapheneOS but I’m still in the skeptic stage. I have lots of cloud decoupling to do and my self hosting ambitions are big so at the moment my iPhone isnt the biggest priority to change out.
But I absolutely do not trust it.
Because if anybody would have a relevant take on this, it’s Florida’s attorney general.
