Web dev solves a simple UI pattern kinda elegantly for rapid development. I don’t disagree with where you’re coming from but I think your last take away is a mischaracterization of why it’s used.

Unraid does this via docker. It’s amazing. You can do this live and on the fly.
When windows 10 stops working is the better chance. Even then, not convinced it’ll be year of Linux.

Ads are not enough reason to stop using it for the majority. You need to offer more than just ad-free. You need to offer the same or better adoption, features, and overall user experience. Discord has these all nailed.
