Per the article, the A/B testing rollout already exists in Studies:

Mozilla introduced studies as “controlled A/B tests built right into Firefox” and they “allow us to compare proposed changes to the default experience in Firefox for small, representative, populations before shipping those changes to everyone.”

I have no detailed knowledge on any of this, so I don’t know how accurate the article really is.

I found this guide by Futo’s Louis Rossman pretty beginner friendly and rather complete.
It’s really recorded with the idea that you can follow it step by step and at the end have something fonctionnal and useful.
Not overly fond of the guy, but on foss and self hosting at least we share values.
Also, there’s sometimes a cat on screen :)

• it has some software choices that I do not share, but I don’t think it matters much - once you’ve built something that works and gained experience, you can do it again with other choices if you want
• IIRC you need 3 computers to follow the guide
  • 1 to act as router and (among other things like network-wide ad blocking) allow access to your self hosted stuff from the outside world
  • 1 to actually host stuff onto
  • 1 to configure everything from
  • you can use pretty much any small cheap-ish computer as long as its processor is of the x86 type (which most are except raspberry pi and anything labeled Atom)
  • you’ll probably have to dance around a bit with screen and keyboard if (like me) you only have one of each, so having the 3rd computer as a laptop (with an RJ45 port) or watchig the video from a tablet is recommanded
• the video is really meant as a complete do-along (even telling you where to find the ISOs to download) which is IMO quite rare and really nice

I’ve seen a lot of stuff being about Linus in the kernel-related stuff, so I have one question: are they really as central as they seem - and we’re all gonna weep blood when they’re not here any more for any reason - or are they a figurehead (due to being the creator and still being very involved) in a sea of equally involved developpers/maintainers/contributors - and should something happen to them, the kernel would continue going in the same direction?

For anyone not in the know, F-droid is an alternative app store for android where all applications are opensource, verified and don’t track you.
You can download it from their website (be warned: android is likely to ask you a half a dozen times if you’re sure you want to download, install and give it permissions), install it and explore a great new world :)

I started and finished Stray today. It’s a bit short (5.5 hours) and imo not really replayable, but I had a really nice time with it. I found it akin to Outer Wilds in the sense that you get to discover the lore as you progress in the world. I recommend picking it up if you get it on sale (the full price is a bit much for the duration).

So do I. During lockdown a french hosting company set up bbb instances on their infrastructure, and the experience was really good (they even activated the “join with your phone” feature).
Zoom and Gmeet are usable (usually calls are stable and quality is ok) but closed-source shit, and I had a lot of stability issues on public jitsi instances (though I never self-hosted).

I’ve been playing a bit of CS2 for the past weeks. It takes me way back (I played with high-school friends 20 years ago till 1.6) and I definitely suck, but I’m having fun. It still lacks fun community servers imo, but I hope to see more of them soon.

My favorite game of 2023 was Outer Wilds. I got completely immersed inside and spent a lot of quality time uncovering the storyline. I tried playing the DLC but I did not enjoy it very much, text made more sense than images for me.

The game I spent most hours on in 2023 was probably DOS2, doing both solo and coop playthroughs. Will probably be replaced by BG3 in 2024 :)

Yes I agree, I just wanted to point out that IMO Starcraft 2 was not the first pc game with a good matchmaking system.

I remember good matchmaking in Warcraft 3 for srandard matches.

And I also remember having lots of fun on custom servers for CS, Half-Life, D2 etc. and not at all feeling like matchmaking was a required feature.

Just finished Firewatch, and I’m a few hours in Outer Wilds. I enjoy having no way to really fail, and discovering the story bit by bit.

Started Torchlight 2 in coop with a friend living abroad, it’s fun to see a non-blizzard Diablo with a Warcraft 3 aesthetic. Still trying to figure out which mods we want in the long run.

And almost at the end of It Takes Two in couch coop with a friend, we’ve laughed a lot so far !

So, based on some comments here, it looks like I came across as trying to ban language, to forbid words, to restrict your free speech.

As stated in my original post, this was and still is not my intention. I have not attacked personally the persones using “cunt”, nor have I said no one should say that.

I just shared a reflexion, because that’s why I sign up on social media platforms.
