I actually think that too. But unfortunately, Mastodon is the only project outside the Fediverse that has been reported on by high-reach media. As a result, universities and the scientific community are now very fixated on Mastodon, without knowing that there are more alternatives in the Fediverse that might have been more suitable for them.
After all, before choosing a server, the first crucial step is to choose the software/service that can be used to access the Fediverse. But even that was repeatedly presented as ‘too complicated’, so that almost everyone was directed to Mastodon.
The questions that were skipped during onboarding are then asked later by almost everyone and have to be answered individually for everyone.
“Also I’ve started a Friendica manual at https://help.friendica.onl but it needs to get content.”
Maybe you may translate some content from this guide: https://friendica-hilfe.gitbook.io/friendica-hilfe ?
Most of the functions should be instance-independent (although loma.ml has activated many add-ons)
The article in the JoinFediverseWiki is very short. It could be expanded a little. I used to have an editor account for the wiki, maybe I’ll find the time to reactivate it.
Thank you, yes, I didn’t read carefully enough. But there is hope for Hypatia!
If I understand correctly, Hypatia will continue with a new maintainer and is now in the Izzy repo
Everything is better ;-)
i.e. mailbox.org, posteo.de; there are also protonmail and tuta.com, but they don’t have IMAP

I haven’t tried these functions yet
The mastodon apps work, but generally only offer the mastodon functions. Fedilab may offer a little more.
There is also Dhaaga: A "client for various social networking platforms and protocols.
🩵 Bluesky 💙 Mastodon 💚 Misskey 💛 Pleroma 🩷 Sharkey 🧡 Cherrypick 💜 Akkoma"
edit: sorry, forgot to read that you are looking for iOs
There is already a more up-to-date version of the second graphic (including mbin and loops):

caos@feddit.orgto Fediverse@lemmy.world•How should I be accessing the fediverse to get the most "federated" experienceEnglish3·5 months agoYes, Lemmy accounts can only follow/subscribe to groups (besides Lemmy also mbin, piefed + also Peertube), but not individual accounts. A Lemmy account can only communicate with individual accounts if they write something in a community. That is one of the aims of mbin, to connect them: The structure of communities /magazines + a microblog feed.
caos@feddit.orgto Fediverse@lemmy.world•How should I be accessing the fediverse to get the most "federated" experienceEnglish6·5 months agoYes, Sharkey is a microblogging service and it can’t create headings, but it still displays them correctly. Among other things, this is better than with Mastodon.
caos@feddit.orgto Fediverse@lemmy.world•How should I be accessing the fediverse to get the most "federated" experienceEnglish14·5 months agoOk, with all pictures in replies it doesn’t work yet or only in the other direction: This Lemmy thread seen from Friendica + Mastodon
Friendica shows all pictures of Lemmy, both in posts and in replies. The other way round only in OP.
I once made a small guide to this here: 🚀 A little guide on how to communicate with Lemmy from Mastodon, Friendica, Hubzilla, Sharkey etc
This is the case with all content (posts + replies) on Mastodon, as it appears separately in the timeline. In this case, it has nothing to do with Lemmy.
Yes, you can do this from almost anywhere in the Fediverse. As Mastodon does not recognise headings, the first paragraph becomes the heading. This means that it looks better on Lemmy if you put the community tag at the end of the post and start with a content-related introduction.
caos@feddit.orgto Fediverse@lemmy.world•What tech skills are needed to host Fediverse platforms for a community of people?English2·5 months agoAre you sure this is a serious offer? This seems suspicious to me: “If you do not want or do not care about having your own server, but still want to be part of the fediverse. With these service packages you get an account at our flagship instances at a low cost. Share a group package with your friends and make it even cheaper!”
Do I understand correctly that you have to pay 29.99 just to get an account on their “flagship instance”? or how is it to be understood?
caos@feddit.orgto Fediverse@lemmy.world•What tech skills are needed to host Fediverse platforms for a community of people?English2·5 months agoThere’s also Managed Hosting: Hosting a Fediverse instance (a list of providers): “However, there are hosting companies that can take care of the installation and technical maintenance for you. You get a pre-installed application, mainly Mastodon, which is also technically maintained. You yourself are an admin and can do some things in the application’s admin menu, such as manage your own users. This way, you can also allow a larger group of people to access the Fediverse.”
If you select ‘Forum Discussions’ under ‘What type of content do you want to see or share?’, NodeBB, Lemmy, mbin, Piefed and Lotide are then recommended. That fits well.
But if you select ‘Social Media Post + ’Forum Discussions", Mastodon, Misskey and other microblogging services are recommended, as well as Lemmy. But not mbin, which actually offers exactly this combination, and also not Friendica, which can do micro-/macroblogging, but also offers forums/groups and federates best with both directions.
So it’s perhaps a little under-complex, but nicely done and a good new contact point for interested people.
