  • i’ll just add a few i haven’t seen yet:

    • Chained Together - running gauntlets while … chained together
    • Children of Morta - adorable graphics meet solid gameplay and vivid storytelling
    • Core Keeper - top-down Terraria with great pixel art, full release in a week!
    • Cosmoteer: Build your 2d-Spaceship and do what you want! Full workshop support with tons of available mods.
    • (hmm so much stuff starting with c, gotta change my game)
    • Element TD 2 - classic tower defense experience
    • Heavenly Bodies - Adventure game with physics!
    • Kingdom: Two Crowns - the right thing for chilling :-)
    • Necesse: even more Terraria, but with a huge world and settlements to build and manage. Still in EA, and needs polish, but great game even now!
    • Neon Chrome: Cyberpunk twin-stick shooter
    • Operation Tango: Asymmetric Coop, one is a hacker, the other is the agent on the ground
    • Streets of Rogue: “immersive sim”-top down twin stick action roguelite - i cant even describe it well, but it is heaps of fun and chaos can pop up around every corner!
    • Synthetic: twin-stick shooter with tons of guns and a hefty difficulty later on
    • Grim Dawn: ARPG, and one of the best in its class. Dated, but still updated (and gets a new expansion soon-ish!). community is running seasons which add new areas, items and whatnot! i’ve sunk 1500 hours into that one, so i am probably biased when i say give it a whirl.

  • i know what you are going through, i am going to install linux on my current pc (when i worked up enough bravery… well at least i already created the boot media). I have already experience selfhosting services with Debian (in the time before Docker), but since gaming is what this PC is built for and i have a NVidia card that´s a pretty poor choice from what i gathered here.

Over the last few months i was thinking about going with Pop_OS (“i really really didn’t like Gnome the last time i had to deal with it”), then Arch (“Do i really want to shoot myself in the foot? There’s archinstall, but i really don’t want to tinker too much on this machine…”), and now i settled for Nobara (the “gaming” Fedora so to speak, using KDE per default).

I’m now 99% sure that it should be the right one for me, but the thought of doing it makes me quite nervous.

i’m still looking for alternatives for a few windows programs; the main one i will miss dearly is Playnite. There seems to be nothing that offers the integration of all my libraries, my ROMs and emulators, automatic downloading of metadata and boxart, achievements, start scripts for games … i could go on forever :-(

  • Taking a stroll through my library:

    • The Ascent: Cyberpunk Action RPG, nice action and story, single/coop.
    • Star Valor: Top-Down Action space. not so much story wise, but great gameplay, costumisation, fleets, and the upcoming addon will add station building and (more) faction warfare.
    • Weird West: from the Arkane Austin crew (Prey 2016, Dishonored). Good story, immersive gameplay, and a innovative world. It’s 3rd person, but there is a mod which makes it 1st person!
    • Mortal Sin: Roguelike Melee-FPS. lots of fun, and the dev just replaced the level generation completely, adding verticality and much more variety.
    • Golden light: another Roguelike FPS, its on the weird side, but a lot to explore, had a lot of fun with that one!
    • Hardspace: Shipbreaker: scrapping spaceships in zero-g has never been more fun! good storyline highlighting the plight of workers in an inhumane system, and what they can do about it.
    • Styx: Master of Shadows: Thief-like gameplay, well polished.
    • Red Faction: Guerilla: Older game, Open world is a bit bland, but the realtime destruction of large buildings with explosives will never get old
    • and if you haven’t played it yet: the System Shock Remake is an absolute joy to play.

My current FPS fix is Deadlink: another roguelike FPS, very tight gunplay and movement, good looking too.

if you can give a few examples what games you enjoyed, i can probably point you in the right direction… i think i have a slight game collecting problem with a few thousand titles, but at least i can help people like you out lol
