His thoughts seem to be that they share almost no characteristics, no philosophical underpinnings, and that there seems to be no direct path from the one to the other.
What do you think a discussing of “proto-X” is going to look like, if not comparing it to other things looking for similarities and possible links?

Then why are people always surprised to find out that chat bots will make shit up to answer their questions?
People absolutely need a guide for using a chat bot, because people are idiots.

SaltSong@startrek.websiteto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What would you be willing to sacrifice for a better world?English0·18 days agoThe one does not flow directly from the other. A better world requires some protecting from each other, which means giving up some freedoms. A system of complete and total freedom would not be good for most people.
However, as Franken said, it is important not to give up essential freedoms. What freedoms, exactly, count as “essential” ones? Hard to say. We should have a thread to discuss it.
SaltSong@startrek.websiteto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What would you be willing to sacrifice for a better world?English0·18 days agoNo, it isn’t.
What does that have to do with my claim?
SaltSong@startrek.websiteto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What would you be willing to sacrifice for a better world?English0·18 days agoI don’t know if you’ve noticed, but a lot of the trouble in the US was caused by people using their freedom to do terrible things to people, and to set the stage for more of the same.
SaltSong@startrek.websiteto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What would you be willing to sacrifice for a better world?English2·18 days agoProvided they don’t touch freedom to not breed, and we don’t put racist ducks in charge, I think that works be the easiest for me to bear.
But I don’t want kids, so it’s not much of a sacrifice.

They just started offering to make groups one day, and while I want to tear out someone’s tongue for it, it would require far too much effort, and might just be a bit of an overreaction.

But I have no idea why they are there in the first place.

Trump is not serving the ends of American oligarchs. He’s serving the ends of Russian oligarchs.

Maybe not governments in general, but Trump and his party specifically, doesn’t seem too insane.

I’ve done it myself a few times.

No, but they helped get him elected.
Not sure they did it on purpose, and it only affected the stupidest of Democrat voters, but any argument that the genocide in Palestine didn’t impact our election is not being honest.

I find it hard to believe that it’s legal to buy a company, but not it’s contractual obligations. Seems line a hell of a loophole for getting out of things you don’t want to do.
