Because people have been asking and craving for an actually good and fun new Pokémon game for yeaaars now, and Palworld delivered just that. It gives the people what they want.
People think it cool to hate on things that are popular, but this one makes perfect sense. It’s popular because it does what Gamefreak has been refusing to do for decades now.
No Man’s Sky has had no loading screens during gameplay, and space to planet transitions on full planets, since what… 2016?
The Creation Engine is just too damn old.

Unity has competition. That’s why people could leave.
YouTube will (unfortunately) not fail, because there is no viable competition. I was subscribed to Nebula for a while, but obviously that doesn’t have nearly the amount of content YT has.
They bought Bethesda because they feared Starfield would become a (timed) PlayStation exclusive. They just bought the entire publisher… And now Activision is next.
Having said that I’m not a fan of Sony buying Bungie to use their “live service” expertise either.
