I’m not sure that fawn feel much fear since they’re supposed to lie in one spot and wait for their mother, a quick search turned up “Very young fawns do not appear to have any natural fear of predators, and may even walk up to humans” although I haven’t been able to conclusively verify the claim.

They were in the Eurovision this year (and unfortunately came last) but the Norwegian band Gåte. Their songs Skarvene and Hamløypar are two of my favorites, and Bannlyst is also fantastic.

C++ is unironically my favorite language, especially coding in python feels so ambiguous and you need to take care of so many special cases that just wouldn’t even exist in C++.

I think part of it is a fundamental weakness in the Swedish judicial system where you need clear perpetrators and clear victims, meaning that if you have a group of people committing a crime and you can’t prove that they intentionally cooperated to commit the criminal act or who did exactly what, they may go free (exhibit A). The same goes if you can prove the crime but not the victims (exhibit B).

Of course the bar is higher when it comes to the police, they will pull out all the stops to prevent one of their own getting investigated, but this issue runs even deeper.

I think the exact opposite, ML is good for automating away the trivial, repetitive tasks that take time away from development but they have a harder time with making a coherent, maintainable architecture of interconnected modules.

It is also good for data analysis, for example when the dynamics of a system are complex but you have a lot of data. In that context, the algorithm doesn’t have to infer a model that matches reality completely, just one that is close enough for the region of interest.

One thing that works for me on Pop OS is to switch audio device in the settings, it’s like the buffer gets filled up and switching device flushes it.

Okay, I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s kind of an apocryphal reverse-explanation to counter currently all-too-common abusive behavior towards service personnel. I think it’s just an old motto that once made more sense than it does today when it’s been in use for over a hundred years.

I’ve seen this before but is that truly the origin? On the Wikipedia page, the quote(s) do not seem to allude to taste or buying preferences at all but rather to customer service. I’ve tried searching but I haven’t seen any primary sources state that the original quote, or intent, was with the inclusion of “in matters of taste”.

I thought right-hand rule with Z up as thumb was standard in science? You usually project on the xy-plane, for example when calculating the distance to objects on a flat surface.

Where in Europe were you? Because I can’t imagine that the Nordic countries would be 20 years after the US when it comes to digital services, that simply doesn’t sound possible to me.
