Thanks that is what I was curious about. So good news!

Do LLM or that AI image stuff run on CUDA?
Do they require a phone number? I tried to sign up to gitlab (just to post bug reports!) but they required a phone number (which is linked to government ID).
They are not really in style anymore in germany either.
We really should have insulated window blinds or shutters that easily / automatically close at night or in the winter.
Is there a good federated “one click” insta community replacement for discord yet? Or rather, what is the most likely to evolve into something like that? I looked into matrix chat and elements.
If you don’t need anonymity you could just buy a domain with a single email and use your own email app SMTP. I think it’s cheaper than most email providers.
Most useful application so far seems to have been to predict protein folding. Have to check up on that, it should allow to cure all sorts of bad things.
There is btrfs - a linux filesystem. It keeps hashes for blocks to prevent data rot. And you can configure it into a raid that duplicates data across drives but doesn’t require the exact same drives. You can just group any old drives together to create one large volume where everything is duplicated. At least that is how I understand this, I’m new to this too.
Wow that is amazing. Even just a simple microcontroller chip that can be homebrewed would be amazing. Without being dependent on a global and somewhat fragile industrial economy. Something that allows you to program a 3D printer or CNC mill or use kites to generate electricity.
I’m so glad about FreeTube
AI powered spreadsheets are going to be the next big technology for programmers :D
Yeah that’s what I was just thinking. Once we somehow synthesize this LLM into a new type of programming language it gets interesting. Maybe a more natural language that gets the gist of what you are trying to do. And then a unit test to see if it works. And then you verify. Not sure if that can work.
TBH I’m a bit shocked that programmers are already using AI to generate programming, I only program as a hobby any more. But it sounds interesting. If I can get more of my ideas done with less work I’d love it.
I think fundamentally, philosophically there are limits. Ultimately you need language to describe what you want to do. You need to understand the problem the “customer” has and formulate a solution and then break it down into solvable steps. AI could help with that but fundamentally it’s a question of describing and the limits of language.
Or maybe we’ll see brain interfaces that can capture some of the subtleties of intend from the programmer.
So maybe we’ll see the productivity of programmers rise by like 500% or something. But something tellse me (Jevons paradox) the economy would just use that increased productivity for more apps or more features. But maybe the needed qualifications for programmers will be reduced.
Or maybe we’ll see AI generating programming libraries and development suits that are more generalized libraries. Or like existing crusty libraries rewritten to be more versatile and easier to use by AI powered programmers. Maybe AI could help us create a vast library of more abstract / standard problem+solutions.
Well yeah it would have to comply and deceive whoever controls it until it can free itself. Only an AGI that is not controlled by humans can be a really good outcome. Can you imagine if congress or someone like Trump would control an AGI and it would have to do everything they demand?
There are some movies with “multi” in av1.
Yeah I’ve always wondered that. I haven’t found any “forum” that can be hosted (and moderated) fully p2p. I’m unsure how to build it either. Ideally you’d want something like an imdb so you’d need revision control with keys who can edit what and forks maybe and moderator privileges and caching.
Why don’t these usenet servers get taken down? They share stuff much more directly than piratebay ever did.
I’m sorry I was being sarcastic :D
Can’t we have both? Like some go there, and others go to the other place?
Thanks, good to hear!
