  • One thing that you are missing that is super disingenuous, is the fact that YouTube premium does pay more.

If you take a video and you send it to 1000 people who have YouTube premium, and you make another video and you send it to 1,000 people who watch ads, the video you sent to premium users will pay more.

From the stats that you showed, you are lumping every single person who views a video in with the small fraction of people who have YouTube premium.

I also don’t believe that you were continuing to get ads on your TV with an active YouTube premium subscription. I get 0 ads on any platform I’m signed into.

  • I know I will be hated for my input, but I use Firefox, pay for YouTube Premium, and my load times are fast. My browser choice hasn’t caused any slow experiences.

Not that I have to justify my purchase, but it’s $25 CAD per month, and I split it between my 5 family members. $5 CAD for ad-free on all my platforms plus YouTube Music, PLUS more money going to creators (as confirmed by Technology Connections on YouTube), I am fine paying a few bucks. Content creators have to get paid, and I hate sitting through ads, so it’s a win-win in my books. I also don’t want to waste time using third party apps, using DNS adblocking, pihole, etc. just to get a decent experience across my devices.

I’m sure my opinion will be taken very respectfully on Lemmy.

  • I messed around with it back when it was apparently better than it is now, and it sucked ass. Fed me outdated info, broken code, and overall was a nightmare.

Tried it recently real quick because I was converting my code, and I didn’t want to dig in the documentation, and the info ChatGPT spit out was 100% false. Not even broken, just wrong.

  • Most apps don’t create error messages in the gui and that’s hard for average users to grasp.

I just went through 3 fucking days of troubleshooting why this program wont work. Finally issued a bug report, it got closed in 30 minutes, dev responded with “ya, those features are currently disabled, terminal will show you a warning when you launch it”.

Great. And nothing for the GUI users?

The biggest annoyance to me is that Linux fanboys will say how you never have to touch a terminal if you don’t want to, but when you bring up how ridiculous it is to disable features, keep them enabled on the GUI, and only throw a warning in the terminal, they’ll tell you to use the terminal lol.
