what about redistributability?
lots of the tapes ppl use for it are translucent tho lmao
agreed ubuntu is kinda shit but arch is hard (to setup post-installation) for a new user imo. You should try kde neon or smth which I’d consider to be a nice beginner distro
freeware not free software >:(
librewolf is cool but I think it’s too privacy optimised for the average user, it often doesn’t keep you signed into sites (even with cookies enabled) and the ocsp things can be annoying sometimes
i like it but i think beginners should start out with" just works" distros
probably because lemmy’s pretty small compared to places like reddit and because everyone sees the same content with the same sorting, places like reddit make a few “help” requests visible and make them feel unimportant
prolly because op just reposted the link from the search engine post from yesterday
The banners are so good
arch makes doing complex things easier though
didn’t know about this, I’ll definitely try it out
huh, I thought ddg had its own indexer?
startpage was fine for me
I just went through and tried out a lot of stuff in VMs and live USBs, and switched to an actual install when I got confident enough/was tired of USB boot speeds
maybe it’s just me but I find just doing things myself much more fun and useful than reading guides
i just started out with whatever distro looked the best in promotional pics, which was kde neon in my case (kde neon <3)
imo it’s more important to go with the interesting option (things like kde neon) than the easy option like Mint, at least it’s what gave me the motivation to try things out and learn Linux
I’m like 99% sure this is Apple’s deliberate decision to make it so companies with confidential data throw out their computers rather than recycling them
Yeah, the new standard Sandisk Ultra are really good. I can’t comment on the other variants, but the Ultras are really fast, cheap, and reliable in my experience
oooh w series are cool
not really
