I’m gonna be honest, Mastodon is kinda trash, on its own. It’s clunky, ugly, and feels like a platform from 2010 (but not in a good way). I think getting people onboard with a Misskey/Sharkey instance is going to be much better. The feature set is a lot closer to Twitter, and it does literally everything Mastodon does, but better.
I wonder if it’s a licensing thing. I know a few of these games had heavy use of licensed music, like Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxy. At least, the original versions did, I’m not sure if that’s the case for the Steam ports.

In theory, this would be true. But in Mozilla’s case, “reinvesting into its employees” means giving the CEO a pay raise in the same year they did huge layoffs. They may be not-for-profit on paper, but the actions from their execs are exactly the same as you’d see from any other for-profit corp. Being not-for-profit is just an excuse for shitty business practices and doesn’t change anything in any significant way, imo.
I’ve been saying for years that Mozilla is a profit-driven corp, just like any other. If they operated at Google’s scale, they’d be evil at Google’s scale, as well. It’s not the first time they’ve done something like this, and likely won’t be the last.
Government entities generally follow the principle of “We go where the people go”. If the majority of people are using Twitter and YouTube and Facebook, then that’s where the government bodies will host their accounts. You’d need a way to ensure that their message will reach their audience before you can even begin getting them onboard with the process of creating and setting up a whole new social platform. And that’s going to be the hardest part to sell, since Mastodon is still among the least-used platforms available. Either show up with the critical mass needed to ensure that they’ve got an established user base, or show a plan to reach that point.

Oh brother, do people ever use the controller mic. They especially love to do it when they play music from their phone speaker on their lap. And they never use headphones, so when you unmute yourself to say “Hey, can you turn your mic down a bit? I can’t hear the game,” you end up blowing out your own eardrums hearing yourself through their TV at full volume.
Probably a pessimistic take, but I don’t expect this to have any discernable impact on sales, or any other effects that would discourage publishers from these practices. The average user doesn’t care about or understand how these things work; they’ll see an anti-cheat warning on the store page and think “Okay, tell the colonel I’ll be on my best behavior then” and continue to buy the game.
Listening to audio would be the least effective and most expensive method of data collection for advertisers. It’s not happening. They already have literally over a million data points on you, there’s nothing useful for them to glean from your audio that they don’t already have ad nauseum.
You see thousands of ads and recommendations every day. You finally found one that was relevant to you. It’s not that deep.
A big complaint I saw about the live-action Cowboy Bebop adaptation for Netflix was that the acting was too cartoony/over-the-top.
Personally, I thought the acting was spot-on for what they were trying to accomplish. It was meant to be a live-action anime, so it was never intended to be 100% tethered to reality to begin with. The characters are meant to be characters, and I thought they did a great job with it. Spike, Faye, and Jet were all perfectly-cast, IMO, and they all felt like their original characters felt from the animated series. There are so many times where you can just close your eyes and listen to them talk to each other, and it feels exactly like it felt watching the anime on Adult Swim back in the early 2000s as a kid.
I honestly loved the live-action adaptation and thought it was amazing. I’m still immensely disappointed that the reception was so poor that Netflix decided to cancel it halfway through the story. There are so many characters I wanted to see that didn’t appear until later in the original series. I would’ve loved to see a live-action Toys In The Attic or Heavy Metal Queen.

I used to work with a guy who had thrown away upwards of $10,000 at this game. The last time it came up, he told me he had spent over $8,000, and that was several years ago and he didn’t seem to be showing any signs of slowing down. When I asked him what he got for that money, he showed me the one ship he has. He had one ship. The rest were still in development and wouldn’t even be released for years.
He spent more than some cars cost, for a handful of digital space ships, 90% of which aren’t even finished. I have no idea how to reason with people who do this sort of thing.
Now that I’m thinking about it, I’m kinda surprised that there hasn’t already been a Skyrim mod that does exactly this.
I’d honestly love to see them try a different take on Diablo. It won’t happen since Blizzard is all about live service games these days, but I’d love to see a single-player, traditional RPG version of Diablo. Imagine if Larian got the rights to make a Diablo game.

I had a 2006 Ford Taurus that would’ve been stronger if it was built with Legos. Water pump fell off one day - like… just… fell off. The brackets weren’t broken or misshapen or anything like that, it just fell. None of the bolts were loose or unthreaded or anything. I know that doesn’t make sense. I KNOW. It makes even less sense that it happened twice.
There was also some kind of electrical issue that I could never isolate, but it was causing fuses to blow out every couple months, and would burn out the starter about once a year. I had to replace that starter so many times that I stopped needing to refer to my Chilton book for the steps. Sometimes the power steering would just stop working and then start working again with no warning.

From what I’ve seen, the SH2 remake looks really good. Honestly, it’s a fine starting point if you want to get into the series as SH1 is pretty inconsequential to the rest of the games, so you can definitely just skip it and not really miss out on much.
I really hope that Bloober gets the greenlight to continue remaking the rest of the series. I’d love to see a modernized SH3.
I loved Control so much, I’m glad to see that Remedy’s still expanding on that universe.
They’re usually put in the game’s credits. The promotional material is part of the game even if it isn’t on the disc, it isn’t some separate project that exists in a vacuum.
