From makes good games, but when it comes to technology they either suck or are just lazy as hell.

Well, there’s modern C++ and it looks reasonable, so you start to think: This isn’t so bad, I can work with that.

Then you join a company and you find out: They do have modern C++ code, but also half a million lines of older code that’s not in the same style. So there’s 5 different ways to do things and just getting a simple string suddenly has you casting classes and calling functions you have no clue about. And there’s a ton of different ways to shoot your foot off without warning.

No, it’s not. Most people, even in the US, can easily use the range. You don’t go to a cross country roadtrip every day.

You drive to work, go grocery shopping, drive home and that’s usually it. A range of 400km+ with new EVs is easily enough. Or do you drive to the gas station every 2 days with your current car?

And even if you go on a roadtrip, after driving for 4 hours you might want to take a break anyway.

Manufacturers also give 7+ years warranty on batteries by now, but even after 10 years a battery doesn’t just break, you only lose a few percent of range (if this wasn’t already calculated into the buffer, depends on the car).

Right now I could buy an EV with 520km range for 36k€. It’s rapidly getting better.

Are we? There’s still plenty of space for solar and wind. Including large battery installations for cities. It doesn’t really feel like we’re hitting a limit there anytime soon.

Let’s be real here, they weren’t shut down for being an emulator, they were shut down for charging money and making bank, while also planning a parallel paid online service. All the other emulator projects are trucking along just fine, even if Nintendo hates some of them for decades by now.

Be sure to unplug the windows drive before installing Mint to the other drive.

Why would you do that? Totally unnecessary. When Windows is already installed any Linux installation respects it without issues. The problem is the other way around, if you install Linux first and then install Windows afterwards on a second partition/drive it nukes your Linux bootloader.

Especially in times of M.2 drives (which are often behind the GPU) you only annoy people by telling them to unplug their Windows drive first. And they might want to use a second partition on that drive if it’s bigger.

I was rather happy with Netflix for nearly a decade. The price was reasonable and family members could also watch. When I moved out I upgraded to the 4K package (split 3 ways between family members) and it was fine at first.

But there were several caveats:

• 4K only works on TVs, on my 1440p monitor I could only watch 1080p. Sucked, but it’s not too bad
• Price kept going up, in the end it was 18€ a month. That’s okay split between 3 people, but otherwise far too much for what is offered
• Series that I liked kept getting cancelled, while trash was getting renewed or they messed up the later seasons (Looking at you, The Witcher…)
• They cracked down on password sharing, suddenly you need to be in the same WiFi to count as home or you need a travel code (limited to 2 a month and only for 2 weeks each), so if you regularly move between places it’s a no-go for a service you pay for

I finally cancelled it, sick of their shit. Which also has the benefit of no longer having to take care of the account for the family. Unfortunately my dad accidentally took over the account (while trying to create a new one) and keeps paying the 4K price (I suggested at least going down to 1080p as the quality is shit either way). Simply idiotic :-/

Personally I tried out Real Debrid and it has been pretty alright so far. The quality is better too, which is ridiculous.

Mobile is an entirely different beast. Like sometimes my keyboard doesn’t show up. Or the text select refuses to work. And so on. It’s a mess. Even on a Galaxy S22.

No clue how people can exist without a proper computer at home and still do stuff online.

Ctrl + C literally doesn’t work at times, it drives me crazy. It might be due to some shitty applications and websites overriding it or adding complexity (Like copying not only the text but additional information).

I’m often 100% sure I copied the text, change the window and an old clipboard entry gets pasted.

What has that to do with this argument? The lay-offs in the last six months were mostly due to massive overhiring while money lending was cheap. Now interest rates are up and those companies are trying to keep their profits up (or become profitable in the first place).

And the thing is: They hired so many people, even with the lay-offs the headcount is still higher than it was a few years ago.

That’s simply not true, projects are usually done in stages. You got pre-production, production, testing, launch, post-production, …

So take an employee who mainly works in pre-production. Based on what you said they’d be laid off after everything is done and production starts, right? But that’s not how it works. Those people immediately start with the pre-production work of either the next project, or the DLCs for the current one.

There’s always more to do, after launch of a game you can’t have your developers sit around idle, you need the next project already prepared and ready to go. That’s why game DLCs sometimes release only months after launch, they have been worked on for a while.

Do you have this issue in every game or just Overwatch? It has been years, but in the original Overwatch I had a similar issue, ~200 fps and constant random stutters. Unfortunately I’m not sure what fixed it back then.

It was either fixing G-Sync (Try running the game without FreeSync with your 7800xt, does the stuttering persist?) or sound issues (Disable all sound devices you don’t actually use, for example HDMI, or DP etc.).
