drugs and alcohol abuse isn’t just limited to pizza chefs, but chefs in general
over under, silk song releasing compared to prime 4
the funding likely was for plans they disclosed to the shareholders. its still simethinf they shouldnt pursue because its already on its own a very niche usecase.
for example, they didnt outright produce the desktop case themselves, they handed off production of that essentially to coolermaster.
the handheld gaming case is a niche (repairable laptop owners), in a niche (people who are on their second fw13 board), in a niche(is a gamer), in a niche (willing to trade off performance and size due to board size and slower ram speeds). there is very little momey in that and the project makes sense more for the community than the company itself (which some in the community has already started/finished)
IMO its a waste of time for their in house industrial designers for that. this kind of project should 100% be a community effort. a startup company does not have infinite resources.
as a person who has it installed and has an OLED monitor, am not pictured. Of the few things why I haven’t bothered connecting my laptop to my monitor ever yet, though it happened recently for KDE plasma
part of the reason for that iirc is japan has different laws and management when it comes to it.
in context of steam, its usually because japanese managment to launch games on steam is a different person for global organizations, and is usually incompetent. sometimes, the reason is a tually laws about voice/music licensing rights specific to japan
i mean historically, this isnt new. CPUs and GPUs will always introduce some new compute unit thats highly specific workloads using up die space. take cpu examples like AVX2, AVX512 for example, or Aegia Physx hardware, or Nvidias Tensor units to allow for tech like raytracing/upscaling or all hardwares video decoder/encoders.
Companies will push the changes on their hardware regardless, and they will only remove it if it interferes with a core design of a chip (e.g Intel P/E cores disable AVX512 because E cores do not have AVX512 units) or gets i a point that barely anyone uses it.
if you never want to buy into thia kind of tech, then choose to never buy whoever is the most popular cpu/gpu in a market, because people at the top invent new things to further the gap between them and everyone else, as they are usually first and foremost, publically traded companies.
whose throwing away stuff every six months, hardware cycles arent even remotely that short, hell, moores law was never that short in the existence of said law. and its not like I dont have my fair share of preventing hardware waste (my litteral job is the refurbishing and resell of computer hardware, im legitimately doing more than the averge person and trying to maintain older hardware several fold). But its not my job to dictate what is fun and whats not. whats fun for you isnt exactly everyone elses definition of fun.
less on general software but more in the gaming side, why target the igpu then. although its common, even something near a decade old would be an instant uplift gaming performance wise. the ones that typically run into performamce problems mostly are laptop users, the industry that is the most wasteful with old hardware as unless you own a laptop like a framework, the user constantly replaces the entire device.
I for one always behind lengthening the lifetime of old hardware (hell i just replaced a decade old laptop recently) but there is an extent of explectations to have. e.g dont expect to be catered igpu wise if you willingly picked a pre tiger lake igpu. the user intentionally picked the worse graphics hardware, and catering the market to bad decisions is a bad move.
its why you choose your battles, some are much more reasonable than others.
for instamce the battle for Sony trying to get pc players to buy consoles to play the sequel i already know the outcome and is a pointless fight, as a majority of PC players arent going to buy a console to play a sequel of a title that they liked. people didnt rush to go out and buy a ps5 to play god of war ragnarok, nor FF16, nor FF7 rebirth, nor cave to play Ghost of Tsushima, nor Horizon Forbidden West.
the situation with Sony login requirement is definitely something that is challengeable and not a lost cause.
but thats when youre trying to have a situation where decisions are binary. the idea of binary sides is what causes defeatist attitude for change when things arent binary. Just because mtx wont go away doesnt mean you should stop trying to make it less worse than it is.
an example is the movement to 70$ games. we well all agree that its eventually going to happen, but it doesnt stop that you can make it less worse now as in the past year, several back to back viral games werent AAA priced titles.
depends on context of what youre trying to do. just because it has failed once means its failed in the history of all games.
take for a old major game for example that is one of the progenitors of microtransactions maplestory. back in 2020/2021, nexon in Korea did some underhand shit, and whales in the game collectively created a round table to demand changes to the game and succeeded. result of all the underhanded shit caused a 9 million dollar lawsuit and fundamentally changed aspects of the game. On the Global server, a user was about to hit level 300 (the current cap) and the company advertised his stream, instead of hitting 300, he spent 45 minutes ranting about how broken the game is, then logged off without leveling with a 20k viewership on twitch. 2 days ago they push out a notice adressing that they are trying to change a lot of the longstanding problems that the rant adresses directly.
never say it never works, but it can, but doesnt always work.
this generation is odd because the effects of covid are still being felt.
the PS5 also has reletively low game ownership rate, so the hours on PS5 are either games given for free/part of subscription, or free to play.
some pci-e device. but the main chips are probably on the other side of the board.
the new app is a step in the right direction. it will push you to want to login via free rewards, but its optional. its a lot snappier than the POS that is GFE and really the only thing holding it back atm is not all the features of ncp has been integrated onto the new app, so it’s still required to have the ncp around.
took forever as both AMD and Intel had updated their driver software suit ages ago now.
generally speaking, its more valuable if the cost of electricity used is lower than the cost of getting better internet (e.g living in the bumfuck no where).
say if your isp gives you a 250gb cap and costs 50$ per 250gb (just throwing out numbers), it might make sense to use less data in the stream quality, and upscale it to a higher resolution using GPU as a cost saving measure.
using a computer traditionally was seen as a secretary job, so it was often dominated by women. its only as of post consumer computer events where a lot more males went into the field due to the large market it offers came in.
