As someone who has it, I agree with all the points. The hardware is great, the controls and screen are wonderful. Lag is 60-80ms and will affect different people differently and may be more noticeable depending on the game being played. This will also be variable depending on how far you are physically from your PS5 if traveling.

My primary critique at the moment is the frame pacing. It seems to switch between 30 and 60 fps constantly and it can be really distracting if it’s something you are able to notice. In the review look at the video around 11:52 and see if you can notice it. If you can’t then you might not have an issue.

In real gameplay I can notice it playing Ragnarok. It doesn’t fully take me out of the experience, but it is distracting and something I really hope they fix. Apparently this is something that affects all official remote play clients but not 3rd party applications like Chiaki or PSPlay. Hopefully now that Sony has an official Remote Play hardware product they will fix it.

So in short, if you are susceptible to seeing the frame rate fluctuations and it is something you can’t ignore, I would consider holding off on a purchase.

However, If you can’t see it or don’t care too much and are just trying to claw back your game time from your kids and significant others who hog the TV, I will say that dealing with some framerate issues is likely preferable to doom scrolling your phone or watching kids shows. So in that instance I might still recommend it.

Personally I’m still enjoying it, but wish it were just an ounce better to give it a full hearted recommendation.

    What are your thoughts?

Edit: other issues that may affect your purchase. No Bluetooth (but that’s not new info), and no web browser which is an issue with dealing with wifi that has captive portals. That means you likely won’t be able to connect to most hotel or airport wifi. That last one is a big swing and a miss from Sony.

I will almost guarantee the reason they didn’t include a browser, was they are trying to keep it from getting jailbroken. Considering the number of consoles that have been hacked over the years via browser exploits.
